Virtual Class II

This is the second virtual meeting between SMK Negeri 7 Halmahera Barat, Indonesia, and Gangjin High School, South Korea. During the meeting, the students share their traditional stories in English and reflect on the messages and values embedded in these stories. As they learn about each other’s cultures, they also explore how these stories relate to the principles of Global Citizenship and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The traditional stories often carry timeless lessons about community, respect for nature, and the importance of peace—values that are directly connected to the SDGs. For example, stories about environmental harmony can inspire action towards addressing climate change and preserving biodiversity, while narratives about helping others and promoting equality resonate with the goals of reducing poverty and inequality.
Through the lens of Global Citizenship Education (GCED), the students come to understand that these stories are not just cultural artifacts but also powerful tools for fostering empathy, solidarity, and social responsibility. By reflecting on how their own cultural stories contribute to global challenges and solutions, they recognize the importance of thinking beyond borders and taking collective action. In this way, sharing stories becomes an important step in building a more peaceful, sustainable, and interconnected world.
